2 Kings 2:13-14 (ESV Strong's)
And he took up the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the water, saying, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” And when he had struck the water, the water was parted to the one side and to the other, and Elisha went over.

If ever there was a question to ask for our personal lives and the lives of those of the Body of Christ, this is the question: Where is the God of Elijah? The question is being asked by Elijah’s prodigy, Elisha. Elisha was not even around when Elijah’s greatest spiritual act was completed: Calling down fire at Mt Carmel and destroying all the prophets of Baal; both psychologically and physically. Along the way, Elijah was instructed by God to mentor Elisha. Now Elijah is being taken to heaven and Elisha was told that he would have “double” the power of Elisha if he saw Elisha taken up into heaven. He did!! Now he is claiming the promise Elijah gave him. He was not acting in his own power, he was acting upon the promise of Elijah, who was the spokesperson for God. We too, as believers, have the power of the God of Elijah based upon the promises of God. Note Paul’s words to the church at Corinth about his own weakness and God’s power:
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (ESV Strong's)
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
When we ask God for power, we have to realize that we are promised the same power that Elisha was claiming in the above verses. We will not use the power in the same way because we are not commissioned on the same journey as Elisha. But, never-the-less, we have the same power afforded to us for the mission God has given us. We should, each day, ask: Where is the God of Elijah? That is the power we should be claiming in our lives.
