Tag: Recount Your Praise - Psalms 78-80

Psalms 79:13 (ESV Strong's)
But we your people, the sheep of your pasture,
will give thanks to you forever;
from generation to generation we will recount your praise.

Have you ever been counting something, lost count and had to start again?   Frustrating, right?   It probably is if you are counting parts for a shipment, or components to a recipe, or pennies in your budget.   Everyone alive at the time remembers the “recount” in Florida for a presidential election.  But, in the above passage we see something glorious in regard to a recount.  The great song writer Asaph ends Psalm 79 by stating that from “generation to generation we will recount your praise,” speaking of God and all He has done for Israel.    We often lose count of what God had done for us because we are so busy asking Him to do more.   God has done so much for us that we should, stop, and recount them all.   We complain, often (like the Israelites), of what we don’t have.  When, in reality, we ought to talk about what we do have in our lives because of God’s amazing work and grace in our lives.    We need to, perhaps, simply count them.  Perhaps we have never really just counted the great things God has done for us; much less “recount” them.    God is due our praise for all He had done and this Psalm is a reminder to thank God for the blessings He has bestowed upon us.   Recount them!!
