Lamentations 3:16-18 (ESV Strong's)
He has made my teeth grind on gravel,
and made me cower in ashes;
my soul is bereft of peace;
I have forgotten what happiness is;
so I say, “My endurance has perished;
so has my hope from the Lord.”

We all grieve. We often grieve over the wrong things in the right way and the right things in the wrong way. Grieving is a absolute of life. We will never be free from grief until we are home in heaven with Him and even then that passage way, that avenue, is the greatest grief of all. We often, as stated, grieve over the wrong things. We grieve over sporting events lost. I once knew a man who was so upset his team lost he had a heart attack after the lose. He has never been the same. Be grieve over the most foolish things. The loss of a possession; the loss of a job; the loss over a bad day; the loss over our entertainment being denied us. Teenagers can often grieve over the loss of popularity. Adults can often suffer grief over the loss of a promotion. We all suffer loss over losing a relationship ... especially if that person in the relationship was at the center of our lives and we worshipped them as such. But, in the above passage that is not the reason for Jeremiah’s grief. He is grieving because of sin and the loss of God’s presence and comfort. If there is a reason to grieve, this is the reason to grieve. Our lives should be centered around God’s comfort of us and God’s relationship to us. When those are loss, we truly should grieve. We often don’t grieve over the right things. Notice what Jeremiah says after this grieving:
Lamentations 3:22-24 (ESV Strong's)
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
Even in the deepest grief, we have to approach God in faith and, as Jeremiah did, believe in the steadfast love of the Lord. It NEVER ceases. Even in the midst of grief we come to God in great faith and trust in His unending love. God is faithful to be there, despite our greatest pain and sorrow. Why? Jesus said it this way:
Matthew 5:4 (ESV Strong's)
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
We can rejoice in the blessings we have in His unending comfort. When we grieve for the right things we have comfort in the right way by the right person. The only person who can comfort us.
