Exodus 37:1 (ESV Strong's)
Making the Ark
Bezalel made the ark of acacia wood. Two cubits and a half was its length, a cubit and a half its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height.
Tag: Man was Made to Make
In the above verse, the word “made” is used over 250 times in Exodus, alone. It is used 2,260 times in God’s Word. It is first used in Genesis 1:7 ...
Genesis 1:7 (ESV Strong's)
And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so.
Since we are created in the image of God and God “makes,” we are created to make as well. Bezalel was the master craftsman that Moses gave instructions to in regard to the building of the Ark and the Tabernacle. He had help and later in this section we have another comment about the “makers” of the Tabernacle:
Exodus 38:22-23 (ESV Strong's)
Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made all that the Lord commanded Moses; and with him was Oholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, an engraver and designer and embroiderer in blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen.
Man was not made to be a consumer. He was made to create and make and produce. The Tabernacle is a perfect example of man doing what he was intended to do: Create for the Glory of God. The is the key, here, in this section about the construction of the Ark. The Ark was the object, but the labor, in obedience to God’s instruction, was the point. Bezalel and Oholiab were given a job to do. It was for the purpose of creating to glorify the One who gave them the talents to create. We were not just made to create. We were made to create to use that talent and creation for the glory of God. Let us use that God given, creative talent to bring praise and honor to God.
