Isaiah 51:7-8
“Listen to me, you who know righteousness,
the people in whose heart is my law;
fear not the reproach of man,
nor be dismayed at their revilings.
For the moth will eat them up like a garment,
and the worm will eat them like wool;
but my righteousness will be forever,
and my salvation to all generations.”
Tag: Do Not Fear Man
Before we dive into the truth in the above verses, note the following complimentary truths:
Isaiah 51:12
“I, I am he who comforts you;
who are you that you are afraid of man who dies,
of the son of man who is made like grass,
Proverbs 29:25
The fear of man lays a snare,
but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.
God, through Isaiah’s words, is giving the nation of Israel hope and strength but assuring them that the words and attitudes of man are not to be feared. When we have God on our side we have nothing to fear. The reproaches of mankind to those who are in God’s hands are nothing and will be dealt with by God. We are to make sure that we are trusting in the righteousness of God and not our own selves, however. Too many believers want to take man on themselves. But, in this verse, and others, God is telling us, “I have this ... let me take care of them.” Notice what Paul says to the Roman believers:
Romans 12:14-21
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
God has this!!!
