Matthew 26:10-12
But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial.

The above story gives us a great glimpse into the human spirit ... one NOT controlled by the Spirit of God. The woman being talked about in the above passage had taken a very expensive bottle of perfume and used it to anoint Jesus feet. The ointment could have been sold for money and that money given to the poor ... so the disciples would argue. It is not that they were so concerned about the poor. It was more that they were envious of this woman’s act. They were not jealous for the poor; they were envious of attention Jesus would give to this woman. The disciples used their own “reason” to object, but Jesus revealed the true nature of their hearts ... the center of their heart was not worshiping Christ. The center of their heart was to please themselves and make themselves look good. They did not want to serve the poor anymore than worship the Christ. They wanted to be recognized for something by Christ and they wanted to control the situation. They wanted to decide what would be done with this expensive ointment. Christ simply wanted them to put Him in the center of their lives. That is what this woman did.
