Revelation 12:3-4 (ESV Strong's)
And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems.
His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it.
Truth: Satan waits for an opportunity to crush Christ.
In the above passage we see John describing the attitude and activity of Satan, in regard to Christ's birth. In the ancient world it was not unusual for the enemy to wait patiently for the birth of the next leader and attempt to kill him at birth, thus ending the rule of the current King and his family. This practice and the above passage reflect what happen when Christ was born. Herod the king was jealous and suspicious of the New Born King of the Jews. So, in his rage, he had all the baby boys killed, hoping to kill the Christ child. This was done by the act of Herod, an actual historical figure, but done as a plan of Satan. The acts we see against Christ and Christianity are committed by men but are done so at the bequeath of the Chief Demon!! The cruel acts we see in the world today, albeit committed by mere men in the name of their twisted faith, are actually acts orchestrated by Satan to destroy Christ and those who pledge allegiance to Him! We are not in a war with mere men and their religion. We are in a war with Satan over the power of Christ and the rule of Christ. These chapters of the book of the Revelation are written to tell us that Christ will eventually not only administer justice over those who fought against Him, but will ultimately rule the earth. The Dragon attempt to destroy the King of Kings, but ultimately he will be defeated by God's great power and Justice.
