Song of Songs 6:4-5a (ESV Strong's)
He You are beautiful as Tirzah, my love,
lovely as Jerusalem,
awesome as an army with banners.
Turn away your eyes from me,
for they overwhelm me—
Truth: God made the love of a man and a woman a captivating love.
Chapter five and six of this book is about the sexual tension building up between the man and the woman before their nuptials. They are gazing on each other and exploring their own sexuality and dreaming of the sexual encounter they will be sharing after their wedding (chapters seven and eight). In the above verse we see another aspect of the love they have for each other. The man is gazing at his bride and is totally captivated by her. She has in essence, "taken his breath away." He states her beauty "overwhelms" him. To be taken in by the beauty of your love is something created and bestowed upon us by God. God created beauty and it is only He who can cause the one we love to overwhelm us. The man is so taking in the women he has asked her to "turn away" her eyes from him. This is true captivation. Her eyes are so full of beauty that he asks her to turn away from him. Imagine the love God has bestowed upon us and the aspect of physical attraction that God has bestowed on us and enabled us to have with another person. This love of each other comes as a gift from God. We ought to praise Him for the sexual and physical attraction we have with another.
My 2025 Theme Verses: Ezra 7:10 (ESV) For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the LORD, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel. Daniel 1:8 (ESV) But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king’s food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself.
