Thus all the work that Solomon did for the house of the LORD was finished. And Solomon brought in the things that David his father had dedicated, and stored the silver, the gold, and all the vessels in the treasuries of the house of God.
Solomon built the Temple. He will dedicate the Temple to God. He will assemble the people to praise God for the Temple. It is doubtful that we can really appreciate this moment and what Solomon accomplished. I took him seven years to accomplish this. He took every detail into account. One aspect that brought the Temple its fame was the use of gold in the building. It must have been marvelous in its splendor. The word gold is used over 15 times in this section. Here are a few of the uses. It shows the magnificent nature of the endeavor. It should teach us the importance of what we do for God and what we build in our lives for God. It should show us to use our greatest riches to magnify God. That is the point of the gold. It was not for Solomon’s benefit, but to bring glory to God. Do you use your “gold” for your glory or His. Note where Solomon put His gold:
2 Chronicles 3:5 (ESV)
The nave he lined with cypress and covered it with fine gold and made palms and chains on it.
2 Chronicles 3:7 (ESV)
So he lined the house with gold—its beams, its thresholds, its walls, and its doors—and he carved cherubim on the walls.
2 Chronicles 3:8 (ESV)
And he made the Most Holy Place. Its length, corresponding to the breadth of the house, was twenty cubits, and its breadth was twenty cubits. He overlaid it with 600 talents of fine gold.
2 Chronicles 3:9 (ESV)
The weight of gold for the nails was fifty shekels. And he overlaid the upper chambers with gold.
2 Chronicles 3:10 (ESV)
In the Most Holy Place he made two cherubim of wood and overlaid them with gold.
2 Chronicles 4:8 (ESV)
He also made ten tables and placed them in the temple, five on the south side and five on the north. And he made a hundred basins of gold.
2 Chronicles 4:20 (ESV)
the lampstands and their lamps of pure gold to burn before the inner sanctuary, as prescribed;
2 Chronicles 4:21-22 (ESV)
the flowers, the lamps, and the tongs, of purest gold; the snuffers, basins, dishes for incense, and fire pans, of pure gold, and the sockets of the temple, for the inner doors to the Most Holy Place and for the doors of the nave of the temple were of gold.
