Jesus Came To Save The Lost - Luke 19-20

Luke 19:10 (ESV)

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

This statement was said at the end of the meeting Jesus had with the tax collector, Zacchaeus.   Jesus had invited himself to this man’s house and the religious leaders complained that Jesus would eat with sinners.   Like most religious people, their piety road blocked their compassion and real purpose in life.   Jesus didn’t come to separate Himself from the world.  He did not come to join Himself to the world.  He can to save the world.   He came to give His life a ransom for the world.   The Pharisees were too busy trying to be important before the world.  Jesus later will call them out for it:

Luke 20:45-47 (ESV)

Beware of the Scribes

And in the hearing of all the people he said to his disciples, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”

Christians in this world can also be like these religious leaders.  We can forget the purpose we came and distort our relationship with the world around us.    We are to be engaged in the world and allow ourselves to share the power of the gospel with the world.   We are not to be so separate that we parade before them with platitudes.   We are to live among them and deliver to them the above message:   The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
