The Bible is Christ-Centric - Ruth

Ruth 4:18-22 (ESV)

The Genealogy of David

Now these are the generations of Perez: Perez fathered Hezron, Hezron fathered Ram, Ram fathered Amminadab, Amminadab fathered Nahshon, Nahshon fathered Salmon, Salmon fathered Boaz, Boaz fathered Obed, Obed fathered Jesse, and Jesse fathered David.

The only way to read the entire Old Testament is to remember that the entire theme of the Bible is Christ-centric.  Everything is about Jesus Christ the Messiah and Savior of the world.  Nothing we read in the Old or the New has any context outside of Jesus and the redemptive act He came to provide.    It doesn’t matter the story and it doesn’t matter the list of genealogy, as the above.   In the book of Ruth we have a great story about this woman who loses everything, Naomi.  She returns home to Israel with her daughter-in-law, Ruth.  Ruth sovereignly meets Boaz, who just happens to be a kinsman of Naomi.   To make the love story short, Boaz and Ruth get married.   They have a son who they name, Obed.  Obed father’s a son named Jesse.  Jesse father’s a son named, David.  This is King David of whom it is said the Messiah will rise from his seed.    The entire story of Ruth is to get us to Obed, which is to get us to Jesse, which is to get us to David.   The genealogy of Jesus includes who?  Ruth!  Note:

Matthew 1:2-6a (ESV)

Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram, and Ram the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon, and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David the king.

Although the story of Ruth has great truths and great principles to learn and live, the entire story is to get us to David, who gets us to the promise King, Messiah, Jesus.

Never read the Bible without understanding it is Christ-centric!!
