Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.
When Jesus came onto the scene it was disruptive in Joseph and Mary’s life. We would like to think that every time Jesus shows up things would be great. After all, He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. But note some of the stories in the Bible about Jesus showing up:
1. When Jesus shows up in Bethlehem Herod would kill all the baby boys under two-years old (Matthew 2).
2. When Jesus shows up in the region of Gadarenes He heals the wild man and all the pigs run into the sea (Matthew 8)
3. When Jesus showed up in the Temple teaching it distributed the entire Jewish religious system (Matthew’s entire book).
4. When Jesus showed up in Stephen’s life it ended up having Stephen stoned to death (Acts 6).
5. When Jesus showed up in Peter’s life it ended up costing Peter his life.
6. When Jesus showed up in Paul’s life it ended up effecting his eye sight.
When God shows up on the scene we must realize He takes over all things. He disrupted Mary and Joseph’s wedding plans. Yet, He brings eternal blessings in the end. In fact, Jesus came to earth to disrupt our earthly lives to bring us blessings for our eternal lives.
