God Gives Us Up! Psalms 125-127

 Psalms 125:5 (ESV)

But those who turn aside to their crooked ways

the LORD will lead away with evildoers!

Peace be upon Israel!

Those who “turn aside to their crooked ways” are oblivious to what the above verse is actually telling them.  Why? Because they have “turned away to their crooked ways!”   Those who do not repent and turn to God cannot see His glory:

2 Corinthians 3:16-18 (ESV)

But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

So, we have freedom to see God’s glory as we turn to him.   When we turn to Him the veil is removed and we can see His glory.  When we continue in our wicked ways, God has not other choice but to invoke His justice.   That can be the outward poring out of his wrath (Genesis 6 and the story of the flood).  Or, it can be Him simply allowing us to do what we do in our sin and He turns us over to our “crooked ways.”

Romans 1:24-28 (ESV)

Therefore God GAVE THEM UP in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

For this reason GAVE THEM UP to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, GAVE THEM UP to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

Sometimes God does not even have to intervene in our lives to work out His wrath for man’s disobedience.  Some times He just gives them up to their own desires and that is His wrath on them.   God will turn people over to their wicked ways when they refuse to turn to Him in repentance.
