Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
He is coming! The Christian classic Christmas song, Joy to the World, ends with this refrain:
Joy to the world then we sing
Let the earth receive her King!
Joy to the world then we sing
Let the angel voices ring
Let the earth receive her King!! That line could have been composed after mediation on this passage from The Revelation. John stated to the early church, “Behold, he is coming with the clouds.” The challenge with our earth today is that most people do not believe He is coming. It has been almost 2000 years since John utter those words, through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Yet, God did say these words and they are as true today as they were then. God is not constrained by our human minds and our earthy time lines. God has a plan and He is brining more and more people into His Kingdom as that plan unfolds. The point of the above verse is not to argue whether Christ is coming. The point of the verse is to tell us what will happen when Christ comes again. That is the point of the book of The Revelation of Jesus Christ by St. John. This is not an apologetic book about whether Christ comes. It is a prophetic book about what will happen when Christ comes. Notice that when He comes “every eye will see Him.” Even they eyes of those who “pierced Him.” Jesus is the Coming King. He will return. Everyone will see that return. It will not be hidden. Those who mocked His coming and scoffed as His delay will be in the group of visual learners. They will all visual learn about His power and presence. Notice how Peter addressed the same scoffing:
... knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
HE IS THE COMING KING!
