Fall Into the Hands of Man, or God? 1 Chronicles 20-24

1 Chronicles 21:13 (ESV Strong's)
Then David said to Gad, “I am in great distress. Let me fall into the hand of the Lord, for his mercy is very great, but do not let me fall into the hand of man.”

Fall Into the Hands of Man, or God?

Prior to the above verse, King David had a moment of pride and wanted to “count” the citizens in his kingdom.   Obviously, the more citizens you have in your kingdom the better you are as a leader? Right?  Well, that must have been what David thought.   But, we would not ever feel that way, would we?  Would men today count their “citizens” and use it to claim how great they are?  Would a church, count their members and use it to claim their “status?”

Obviously, King David’s pride got the best of him.  This is what brought God into the picture.   For his offense, God gave David a three way choice.   He could have three years of famine.  Or, he could have three months of sword by his enemies.  Or, lastly, he could have three days of God’s punishment.   David takes option three.  David would rather be dealt with by God rather than man.  God is gracious.  God knows David’s heart.  Man is wicked and man does not know anyone’s heart ... not only theirs.   We all have this same choice each day.  We can walk with God and fear Him.   Or, we can walk with man and in front of man and fear man.  God is gracious and forgiving and kind and knows every part of our hearts.  Man is mean spirited, angry, destructive and knows nothing of our heart.  God judges the inside - man judges the outside.
