Tag: God Purifies with Wrath - Ezekiel 19-24

Ezekiel 22:17-22 (ESV Strong's)
And the word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to me; all of them are bronze and tin and iron and lead in the furnace; they are dross of silver. Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you have all become dross, therefore, behold, I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. As one gathers silver and bronze and iron and lead and tin into a furnace, to blow the fire on it in order to melt it, so I will gather you in my anger and in my wrath, and I will put you in and melt you. I will gather you and blow on you with the fire of my wrath, and you shall be melted in the midst of it. As silver is melted in a furnace, so you shall be melted in the midst of it, and you shall know that I am the Lord; I have poured out my wrath upon you.”

You can’t help but read the above passage and see the wrath of God.  The “wrath of God” is a real thing.  Just as God is “love” and just as God is “mercy” and “grace,” God is “wrath.”   Knowing that God is love, mercy and grace does wonders for us.  But, do we rejoice in God’s wrath?   In the above passage God is using His wrath to pour out on those who pretend to be His children.  He pours out His wrath to burn off the tin and the dross, so that He can show forth the silver and the gold.   He does this so that we can “know that I am the Lord; I have poured out my wrath upon you.”  Right now we have a time of grace and mercy in the Church.  We are to influence the world around us.   But, there is coming a time when we will see God’s wrath poured out upon mankind like never before (read the book of the Revelation).  We know that there is NO condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).  But, the wrath of God is still real and a part of God’s attributes.   Christ came to save us from this wrath.   God uses the wrath, however, to purify and to make Himself known to those who would seek Him.  We need to glorify God for His wrath as much as we glorify God for His love.  The are not to be separate.   We can rejoice that God purifies with His wrath.
