Tag: God Makes Us The Way He Makes Us!! - Exodus 1-4

Exodus 4:11-12 (ESV Strong's)
Then the Lord said to him, “Who has made man's mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.”

Moses is being summoned by God to lead the people out of the oppression of the Egyptians.   They have been under bondage to Pharaoh and the land of Egypt since the death of Joseph (Exodus 1).   Moses is raised in the courts of Egypt, but is sent to the wilderness and is leaving as a fugitive.  Now God is calling him to go back to Egypt and tell the Pharaoh that God wants Israel let go AND the Egyptians are to send them away with goods and provisions.  This is an incredible mission for Moses.   Moses has his doubts.  Most of his doubts are his own ability to carry out the mission.   God has given some examples of the power God will give him, but still Moses doubts.   Moses, in the preceding verses finally gives God the ultimate “excuse” for not wanting to go: He has a speech impediment.  Note:

Exodus 4:10 (ESV Strong's)
But Moses said to the Lord, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.”

This is what precipitates the above verses.   God knows about Moses’s slow speech because God gave Moses his slow speech.  When it comes to things like slow speech, blindness, muteness, deafness, we don’t like to think that God created those things.  Yet, is is plainly stated in these texts.   God makes us the way He makes us.   Our body frame is of God. Our height is of God.   Our looks are from God.   Our curly hair or straight hair or no hair are from God.   Note:

Psalms 139:14-16 (ESV Strong's)
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.

So, God is in charge.  He creates us the way He wants and He brings calamity into our lives the way He wants:

Isaiah 45:7 (ESV Strong's)
I form light and create darkness,
I make well-being and create calamity,
I am the Lord, who does all these things.

The next time we want to find a reason why we should not do what God wants and we find an excuses not to do it, remember, God already knows and has a way for us to overcome it.
