For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died.

The cult of easy-believism is an easy band wagon to join.  It simply states that you have to believe in God and Jesus and then go on your merry way.  It says that God is a God of forgiveness and therefore we have nothing to worry about, as long as we believe that.   It says that God is good and even if I am bad a good God will forgive me because He knows I am me.   The challenge with that thought is that is all it is ... a thought.   Easy-believism is not taught in God’s Word.   God teaches us we are to come to Him in faith and He does forgive us.  It also teaches that there is no more condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).  It also teaches that if we confess our sins God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).   But, it also teaches us that we are to live in a way that pleases God with a transformed mind and not take advantage of God’s grace (Romans 12:1-2; 6:1-2).   And, as the above passage teaches us, God does discipline those who take His grace lightly and mock His grace by their living in freedom an not in the fear of the Lord.   In fact, this passage teaches that not only will God judge those who take his grace lightly, He might bring sickness on them and even death.   This does not mean that a believer who gets sick is living in a way to mock God’s grace.   It does mean that we should not expect to live in freedom and not realize we have an obligation to allow God’s grace to change our lives.  When we invite God’s grace into our lives and live by faith in light of that grace, we ought to have a changed life.  Easy-believism has no place in God’s Word.  Those who profess Christ ought to see Christ live out in their lives.
