What To Do In Retirement - Psalms 143-145

Psalms 145:4-7 (ESV)

One generation shall commend your works to another,

and shall declare your mighty acts.

On the glorious splendor of your majesty,

and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.

They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds,

and I will declare your greatness.

They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness

and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

If you ever wondered what you are supposed to be doing in your old age, the above section makes it clear.   One generation is to ...

  • Declare
  • Mediate
  • Speak
  • Pour forth
  • Sing

... about God’s ...

  • Works
  • Mighty Acts
  • Glorious splendor of His majesty
  • Wondrous works
  • Might of His awesome deeds
  • His greatness
  • Abundant goodness
  • His righteousness

... to another generation!

If you can accomplish all this in your old age you then can go play golf, shopping, lay on the beach, etc.; do all the things people in retirement want to do.  But we are to do all this in our old age to pass it on to the next generation.   That is our purpose in retirement, no matter how you define it.
