Psalms 119:25-32 (ESV)
DALETH
25 My soul clings to the dust;
give me life according to your word!
26 When I told of my ways, you answered me;
teach me your statutes!
27 Make me understand the way of your precepts,
and I will meditate on your wondrous works.
28 My soul melts away for sorrow;
strengthen me according to your word!
29 Put false ways far from me
and graciously teach me your law!
30 I have chosen the way of faithfulness;
I set your rules before me.
31 I cling to your testimonies, O LORD;
let me not be put to shame!
32 I will run in the way of your commandments
when you enlarge my heart!
Note what the writer is telling us:
Vs. 25 - When we are in the dirt and dust and ding of life, it is His word that gives us life.
Vs. 26 - When we tell God our ways (the journey we are on) He answers us and teaches us on that journey.
Vs. 27 - We need God to give us understanding and to teach us His wondrous works by meditating on His word.
Vs. 28 - When we are melting away in our own sorrow it is God who upholds us and strengthens us.
Vs. 29 - We need God to put away false ways from us. We would run right into them if it were not for Him graciously teaching us His law.
Vs. 30 - We need God to give us obedience to choose His rules and it is His faithfulness, not ours, that accomplishes this.
Vs. 31 - It is only when we cling to His testimonies that we are free from shame.
Vs. 32 - We can run better and faster and longer when our heart is enlarged. God enlarges our heart with His commandments.
