Daniel 12:1 (ESV)
“At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book.
Daniel is giving us a final look at what is about to happen. Chapters 7-12 contain complex prophecy. Within the words, verses and chapters is a message from God, often debated and misrepresented by men. This short blog will not end the debates, confusions and/or false applications from the past or present. But there is some clarity in all of Daniel’s words. One of the truths found in the above verse is one of them. When Daniel mentions Michael, the great prince, he is giving us a great truth to rest our lives upon. Throughout this section we read about this supernatural being. Michael is the overwatch of Israel. To think that God has put an angel to overwatch Israel is a resting thought. There are earthly leaders. But this is a supernatural leader that God puts over all those many, many, many earthly leaders of Israel. In the above verse we hear that this supernatural leader is going to deliver Israel. He has lead them into discipline and now is going to lead them out and back to Jerusalem (through Nehemiah and Ezra). This supernatural overwatch is part of God’s care for His people. God cares for us. He puts over us His Spirit. His Son watches over us. God sends angels to watch over us. We are being watched ... over!! What a blessed truth.
