1 Chronicles 6:49 (ESV)
But Aaron and his sons made offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense for all the work of the Most Holy Place, and to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
Reading this section of 1 Chronicles is like reading the names on someone’s contact list. You might recognize a name, but you are not sure if it is who you think it is. As we read name after name after name, we can get lost in spiritual meaning. According to one internet search there are 1,216 names listed in the first nine chapters of this book. Again, like a contact book, or an old phone book. However, there are some commentaries along the way in these chapters. One of them is above. It simple states that the priest (headed by Aaron) did what they were supposed to do. We might skip over this. It seems relatively unimportant. Yet, when we recall that this is exactly what the nation of Israel quit doing later, we see the significance of it. Don’t be lead astray about people doing what God told them to do. This is a confirmation that Aaron and his sons did what they were supposed to do. That is a great day. When we do what we are supposed to do, it often gets unnoticed in the midst of all the other names on the planet. But God put this in the text to remind us that He sees us when we do what we are supposed to do.
