Check Your Bank Account Each Morning - Ephesians 1-3

Ephesians 1:7 (ESV)

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,

Ephesians 1:18 (ESV)

having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,

Ephesians 2:7 (ESV)

so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 3:8 (ESV)

To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

Ephesians 3:16 (ESV)

that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being,

I have never been much for counting my money.  I am not good with money. I should probably have higher interest in it and take better care of it.  But counting riches has never been much of a thing for me.   I know there are many who get up each day to stay on top of their portfolio.   They check the stock market, their bank accounts and their 401K each day.   The slightest adjustment in the market can elate them or depress them.   In the above five verses, however, there is another form of riches that I do keep my eye on.   According to Paul’s letter to the church at Ephesus, believers in Christ have been given riches beyond our knowledge.   Note what he writes to us:

  1. Ephesians 1:7   We have been given the riches of His grace to cover our sins.
  2. Ephesians 1:18. We have been given  the riches of an inheritance with the saints.
  3. Ephesians 2:7.  We have been given the riches of immeasurable kindness.
  4. Ephesians 3:8.  We have been given the riches of unsearchable truth to give to those who don’t know truth.
  5. Ephesians 3:16.  We have been given riches to provide strength and power.

God has put into our heavenly bank account more riches than we can fathom and riches that are not impacted by the world’s volatility.   Our riches are secure in Christ and in His love for us and God’s plan for us.  We are not just wealthy, we are immeasurable, unsearchable and over-the-top wealthy.   Not filthy rich, purely rich!   Get up each morning and check that bank account!!

Lamentations 3:22-24 (ESV)

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;

his mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.

“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,

“therefore I will hope in him.”
