Whereas you have been forsaken and hated,
with no one passing through,
I will make you majestic forever,
a joy from age to age.
You shall suck the milk of nations;
you shall nurse at the breast of kings;
and you shall know that I, the LORD, am your Savior
and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
and instead of iron I will bring silver;
instead of wood, bronze,
instead of stones, iron.
I will make your overseers peace
and your taskmasters righteousness.
Violence shall no more be heard in your land,
devastation or destruction within your borders;
you shall call your walls Salvation,
and your gates Praise.
If you took the time to read the earlier chapters of Isaiah, you would have read a lot of messages from the prophet about the judgment on Israel and the surrounding nations. According to the prophet’s words, wicked Israel was actually going to be judged by even worse wicked nations. That type of message is a major portion of Isaiah’s book. However, there are also the themes of what will happen to the remnant that believes and what will happen after the coming Messiah arrives to lead them as their king. That is what we read in the above passage. We read the beauty of what Jesus will bring to the nation. In the above lines of his prophecy we read of a beautiful time when Messiah will rule and people will rejoice. Imagine being in Israel today and reading these refrains. What hope that would bring to a people who have been in constant torture from surrounding nations, most of their existence. Yet, it is in the coming Messiah that this happens. At His first coming, Israel rejected their Messiah. Yet, He will come again and establish the type of kingdom we read about in the above passage. What a rejoicing time and great hope for all who love His appearing. Even though Israel has rejected their Messiah, there will be a time when the remnant will rejoice in His return.
