God Provides A Way - Isaiah 62-66

Isaiah 62:10-12 (ESV)

Go through, go through the gates;

prepare the way for the people;

build up, build up the highway;

clear it of stones;

lift up a signal over the peoples.

Behold, the LORD has proclaimed

to the end of the earth:

Say to the daughter of Zion,

“Behold, your salvation comes;

behold, his reward is with him,

and his recompense before him.”

And they shall be called The Holy People,

The Redeemed of the LORD;

and you shall be called Sought Out,

A City Not Forsaken.

These three verses are a great summary of what Isaiah wrote in the previous chapters.   He is telling the nation that, after their discipline for disobedience (being put into captivity by foreign countries), there will be hope.  God will save a remnant of them for His glory.  Here are the highlights of these verses:

1.  There will be a highway prepared for them to return to God.  Not all will.  Ezra will bring some back.  Nehemiah will bring some back.  But this is ultimately talking about the way, the truth and the life, in Jesus that will be the ultimate highway back to God.

2. Isaiah proclaims that Jesus is coming and that He will have both reward and punishment with Him.  Reward for those who seek Him and punishment for those who don’t.   Matthew 21:5 and John 12:15 speak of this.  ‘

3. Finally, God places names on those who come to Him.  Titles if you will:

  • The Holy People
  • The Redeemed of the Lord
  • Sought Out
  • A City Not Forsaken

Peter picks this up theme here:

1 Peter 2:9 (ESV)

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

We have been chosen by God to be restored to God, despite our rebellious nature.
