Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them,
and there is nothing hidden from its heat.
In Psalm 19 we read King David’s words about the revelation of God. In the first six verses we read about the natural revelation. God’s nature is crying out to reveal God. In the last verses of the psalm (7-14) we read about God special revelation. God’s Word is crying out to reveal God. You can almost read these two sections and see two different psalms. The common thought is that God reveals Himself to us. He does so through nature; which allows all mankind to hear who He is. He does so through His written, spoken word; which allows those who have an ear for God to know who He is. All mankind can see and hear nature crying out: I am the LORD. In the above passage we read specifically about the sun. The sun cries out and proclaims God’s glory. Like God’s written word, there is nothing hidden from the heat of the sun. The point being that God speaks and reveals Himself to all. We can hide from the sun. We can ignore God’s written word, but God’s creative world speaks the same truth: I am God and I am here! Mankind does not want to listen to God’s written word. But they can’t ignore God’s created word, seen in the stars, moon, sun, etc. God has chosen to reveal who He is and when we look at nature we see His majesty and glory. The beauty of a sunrise or sunset is photographed by even the most amateur of photographers. We are awe struck but the beauty. It is simply just screaming out, “I was created by God. I am reflecting His glory.”
