Psalms 3:8 (ESV)
Salvation belongs to the LORD;
your blessing be on your people! Selah
Psalms 4:8 (ESV)
In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
Psalms 5:11-12 (ESV)
But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;
let them ever sing for joy,
and spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name may exult in you.
For you bless the righteous, O LORD;
you cover him with favor as with a shield.
In Psalms 3, 4, 5 we read how David is under attack from someone, or in peril’s of some sort. In Psalm 3 we read that the foe David is praying about and asking protection from is his son, Absalom. In chapter 4 and 5 it is relief from those who turn against God and doubt God. David knows, however, where is relief and refuge come. He knows that despite what the situation is around him, he has God as his source of strength and security. In the above verses from each of these songs/prayers, David makes bold statements as to his source of strength. He claims salvation, peace and blessings in the name of God. The world may crash around us but, by faith, we should, as David did, sing out about God sustaining mercy and grace over us.
Hebrews 4:14-16 (ESV)
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
