Tag: Ascribe to the Lord His Due - Psalms 27-29

Psalms 29:1-2
Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.

When we see a new board baby we smile and “ascribe” to the baby the beauty due ... all newborns are beautiful.   When we see a creation that is man made we might say, “Wow” or “Awesome.”   We ascribe to the thing the praise it is due.   What David is saying in the above song is to ascribe to God the glory He is due.  David writes of God’s glory, His strength, the power of His name ad the splendor of His holiness.  God is due all this praise because of His divine attributes.

1. He is the God over all “heavenly beings.”  That means all the heavens, the angels and all demons and Satan Himself must bow before Him.

2. He has “glory” and “strength.”  We can rejoice in the majestic power of God.  He spoke and the world was created.  He rose from the dead through the power of the Son.

3. He is completely holy.  We can worship God in the splendor of His holiness, that He bestows on us through the work of His Son and power the the Spirit.

We can rejoice in the power of God and the majesty of God.
