Tag: Our Strength is in God - Psalm 27-29

Psalms 28:8-9
The Lord is the strength of his people;
he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
Oh, save your people and bless your heritage!
Be their shepherd and carry them forever.

Tag:  Our Strength is in God

We lean on so many things to find strength.  Most people lean on those in the family that they trust.  They lean on their spouse.  Some lean on their parents.  Too many lean on their children.   We lean on our jobs.  Most lean on their income.  Some lean on the refuge of their home.  Few lean on the savings account, stock market growth or long term investments.  We have to identify who or what we lean upon for our safety, refuge, strength and blessings.   In the above Psalms, David identifies the place he is gong to lean.   God is our strength.  People fail us.  People let us down. People even sabotage us.  People judge us unequally.   God is the perfect source to lean upon because God loves us unconditionally, and God has the power to protect us unwaveringly.    It is God who blesses us.  When we turn to others for strength and for support, we fail to realize what we are missing when we are simply alone and trusting in the Creator of the Universe.   In the above verses it says that God is our refuge and strength because we are His people and heritage.   God has identified that He owns us.   He is our “shepherd” because we are His sheep.   In the previous Psalm, note what David said:

Psalms 27:10
For my father and my mother have forsaken me,
but the Lord will take me in.

When even those charged with caring for us and who should always be there for us, forsake us, God is there and our shepherd.  We can trust solely in His matchless care.
