2 Timothy 3:6 (ESV)
For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions,
2 Timothy 3:8 (ESV)
Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith.
2 Timothy 3:2 (ESV)
For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
2 Timothy 3:13 (ESV)
while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
Sin has no respect for gender or age or group. As Paul writes to young pastor Timothy, he outlines what Timothy is up against. He does not rule out anyone as someone who will turn away from God. Children (disobedient to parents), woman, evil men, evil people, will all turn away from God. As a pastor, Timothy must be aware that there are those in the church and in the world around him that will attempt to lead others astray. We are to be on guard about them. Part of 2 Timothy 3:5 adds this statement to this thought:
2 Timothy 3:5b (ESV)
Avoid such people.
Timothy is to be warned. So, too, are we.
