God Can Do More Than We Imagine - Luke 5-6

Luke 6:17-19 (ESV)

Jesus Ministers to a Great Multitude

And he came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. And those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came out from him and healed them all.

Luke 5:26

And amazement seized them all, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, “We have seen extraordinary things today.”

God has power.  When Jesus came to the earth He came and demonstrated that power countless times.   The above passages give us insight into how the people responded to what they were seeing.  Since we read the entire Bible and know the entire story of Scripture it is hard to imagine what they must have felt when they saw these miracles.   But if we were there we would do the same thing.  We still have this awe and wonder about miracles today.  Or so we should.  We don’t see God perform miracles the same way He did through His Son, as He walked this earth.  But God still performs miracles.  The greatest of all miracles He performs to today is converting a sinner to become a believer.   We will pray more effectively if we continue to believe that God can perform miracles today.    We often doubt God.  We doubt by thinking:  He can’t; He won’t; or He doesn’t see our need.   Yet God wants to do something amazing in our lives. Note what Paul said about this:

Ephesians 3:20 (ESV)

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,

God can do farm more abundantly than all we ask or think.   We struggle believing He can meet the need we see in front of us and yet He can do even more than we imagine.   The crowd in Jesus day sought to touch him, for power came out from him and healed them all.   Might we desire to just touch Him and He will do more than we even imagined.
