God Is In Control of Each Penny - Revelation 6-11

 Revelation 6:5-6 (ESV)

When he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” And I looked, and behold, a black horse! And its rider had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard what seemed to be a voice in the midst of the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius, and do not harm the oil and wine!”

In chapter six of Revelation we have the account of John’s vision of the Seven Seals.   Throughout the book, John is explaining His vision and some interpretations of it.   He leaves some things for our discerning with the Spirit.  But, some things he either explains, or an angel in the vision explains.

In chapter five we are told about a scroll that is in the right hand of God.   The scroll contains the judgments on mankind for their failure to worship the risen Christ.   The scroll is “sealed” with seven seals.   As each seal is broken it reveals a judgment of God on mankind for his rejection of Jesus as the Savior and Ruler of the world.   In the above “third seal” we are told about the judgment of God on the financial and economic aspect of man’s world.   God intervenes in the financial structures of the world and brings down judgement on those who worshiped riches and wealth vs God and His Son.    It might be wise for us to understand that God’s sovereignty puts HIM and HIM alone in charge of finances.   All those who teach wealth management and financial security would do well to add to their teaching that all money is controlled not by the banks, Wall Street, and/or international markets.   All finances of the world are controlled by God.   Let’s look at some examples:

1. God made Abraham rich.

2. God allowed Satan to make Job poor and then God made him rich again.

3. God made King David rich.

4. God made King Solomon the riches man in the world.

5. God destroyed the economy of Assyrian and Babylon.

6.  God caused such a severe siege of Jerusalem it destroyed their economy.

7. God brought a famine in the land during the first century church that caused everyone to adjust their focus on wealth.

God is in charge of the economy.  We might do well to practice Bible wealth management but we also would do well to recognize God’s sovereignty over all, including the markets.  God, in the future will use His control over the financial structures of this world to bring judgment on mankind.
